the big apple vw girl's trip

For Mommy & Aunt Courtney's 40th birthdays, Oma took all the girls (Oma & the VW sisters/sister-in-laws) to New York City for the weekend right after Thanksgiving.  (While their birthdays are in August & September, Mommy & Aunt Courtney wanted to see all the Christmas lights and such, so they waited to go until after Thanksgiving.)   They had such a fun time, and Daddy did a great job holding down the fort at home.  For the ladies, they enjoyed lots of shopping, lots of walking, a few tours, lots of eating, a few plays, and plenty of laughs.  Great memories celebrating Mommy & Aunt Courtney.

Iconic Times Square...Mommy & Aunt Helen
Dessert at the famous *****.  No shame in their game...Mommy & Aunt Lindsey enjoyed all of their yummy dessert :)
The first full day, they decided to tour the 9/11 museum.  It was sad, eye-opening, and informative tour...even hearing voicemails and last phone calls of some of the people on board the flights and such.  Very moving to walk through, and they are glad they toured the museum.  After the tour, there was lots of eating, shopping, and walking.

Another day was a tour of the Statue of Liberty.  Most of them wore the tacky foam crowns, and they all enjoyed the boat ride over to the Statue...even though it was cloudy and chilly.

Mommy & Aunt Lindsey are stretching before walking up all those stairs to the crown.  Haha!!!  They took the challenge to go all the way to the top.
One of the “markers” to let us know how far we had gone...so far, not that far. ;)
Getting there...
Here we are at the pedestal of the statue...many steps later.  It was really rainy & chilly, but it was worth it.  The next part of the walking was single file and narrow parts, but most of us were ready to get to the top!
Only 146 more to go...here we go!
This is how the single file, spiral staircase went from the pedestal all the way to the crown...it was crazy!
Almost at the crown...waiting our turn...only 4-6 people could be up in the crown at one time.  (And, it was all indoors...too bad it was so cloudy, but still cool nonetheless!)
If you look out (not a great view due to the weather), you can still see the point of the crown from Lady Liberty.
We made it to the top!!  How exciting!
Oma & Mommy
We made the trek down the stairs (going down the single file, narrow, spiral staircase was quite tricky, too) and headed outside to take some pictures.  Can you see Mommy at the bottom of the picture?
Somehow, Aunt Helen didn’t make this picture...but, the other ladies are there...Aunt Kelly, Aunt Courtney, Oma, Mommy, & Aunt Lindsey.

The dinners before the plays were so yummy.  We also enjoyed just the company of us ladies chatting away.
The plays were also entertaining...we saw Aladdin (Mommy’s pick) & **** (Aunt Courtney’s pick).  We also had the opportunity to see one more, so we watched Dear Evan Hansen.
We had so much fun together...the Christmas lights were beautiful, the tours were so good, the food, shopping, and plays were great, the laughter was contagious, and the time together was so much fun!!  Thankful for family and celebrating together. Mommy was so thankful to Oma for such a fun trip!
